Right, so some character storming is in order. I'm still working my way through the rulebook so just ideas for now but here are a few I came up with/blatantly stole from pop culture. The Weirdness MagnetJust a boring, normal, everyday human but one with an uncanny tendency to be surrounded by the weirdest goings of of the Town. Think for reference Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya, caught eternally in the center of the whirlwind but always the point of calm and reason in the center. It does pose some issues with, you know, keeping on par with the rest of the cast, but reading through the rules a bit I reckon I could spin a character that, though a weirdness magnet is agressivly normal. Or to put another way, can activly make the world around them more mundane and make more sense. Could be fun, though might be a setting mismatch given our genre or might break the setting wide open too easily. The Character "I have seen the fourth wall and it tasted of liqurish" The complete oposite in many ways, a character that is ever so slightly aware of the fact they're in a game and embraces the fact their world doesn't have to make sense. Pretty happy go lucky and willing to go to great lengths in service of the 'plot' this character would focus on breaking the rules more than any other acting almost like a cartoon at their most extreme. I'm not sure how well this would mesh with our starting level, but I really like the idea of a character that just becomes less and less attached to the sane world as they grow in power. Again, runs the risk of setting break, but then again what doesn't? Also I really want to take Skill 4: Acting Childishly The Lapsed GodOkay, this one's a bit further out there. A god of wind and lightning... in training, I'm very tempted to grab a very otherworldly template for this character, like say a gryphon or some kind of elemental. A complete layabout the character would have a grand destiny which they're doing everything in their power to ignore or otherwise avoid. It's an old trope, but a fun one and definitely one that can be played for drama when that destiny starts to catch up and there's good space to wander down darker paths if he becomes desperate to forstall his duties. Slight risk of being overpowered in the long run, but its easy to play this one against himself if powergaming is a problem. Anyway, that's all for now. If anyone particularly likes or dislikes these sing out.

I would shy away from the third if only because that sounds more like a Miraculous character to me, and I'd hope to not have that in the beginning. Either of the first two sound excellent, though.

Righto, well after batting things back and forth I'm probably going to go for the weirdness magnet architype. Before I deleve into character creation proper, what's the rough outline of the setting? Like, is it magic school, or a land of elves or just the regular world with the odd supernatural element? I don't need more than a few words, but its hard to design an everyman without knowing what world they're fitting into.

Good question! It's a town with regular magic, and has a school where creatures of all races and magicks come together to study! They say the Principal may or may not also be the son of the Devil, so take that as you will.

Okay, rough character blurb then:
The Weirdness Magnet
Abe Norman
Abe would describe himself as a pretty average teenager, goes to school, has a couple of solid friends and does okay in class. Sure, they say that the halls are patrolled by demon hallmonitors and they teach necromancy down in the sub-basement, but what school doesn't have those kinds of rumours? And okay, addmitedly he does always seem to find himself in the centre of the lastest mystery far too often but it has to be just chance, he's just an average, mundane kid after all. Abe is certain that everything in Town, even that one kid with the horns and tail, can be explained rationally through science and reason if people were just willing to listen.
The fundemental idea for Abe is for a character that stands in the centre of the weirdness that is Town untouched, which is pretty strange despite his insistances otherwise. He's very much an everyman, but too a degree that is itself strange and his drive to rationalise the world around him is a way of deflecting explainations of himself.
Starting Quest: Otherworldly (Changes) or maybe Mystic (Changes) I'm not quite sure which one fits better
Skills Science (mundane): 3 Superior mundane abilties: 2 My thought for this is Abe does everything you can resonably expect an average person in his situation to be able to do. Take a test? No problem. Cook a simple meal? Sure, who can't? But if we ended up on a zeplin he'd also be able to do things that say an average skypirate would be able to do, like raise the rigging or swordfight, despite the fact he's never done them before. Social: 2 Myths and legends: 1 Abe tries to keep track of all the myths that he hears in order to disprove them later
Specials Bond: I must explain everything I see rationally Affliction: Strange things keep happening to me
Bonus XP (Overreacted) Speachlessness
Connections To be determined
Basic Quest Not sure how this works
